Micron-scale phenomena observed in a turbulent laser-produced plasma

چکیده
Abstract Turbulence is ubiquitous in the universe and fluid dynamics. It influences a wide range of high energy density systems, from inertial confinement fusion to astrophysical-object evolution. Understanding this phenomenon crucial, however, due limitations experimental numerical methods plasma complete description turbulent spectrum still lacking. Here, we present measurement down micron scale laser-plasma experiment. We use an platform, which couples power optical laser, x-ray free-electron laser lithium fluoride crystal, study dynamics flow with micrometric resolution (~1?m) over large field view (>1 mm 2 ). After evolution Rayleigh–Taylor unstable system, obtain spectra, are overall consistent existing theory, but unexpected features. This work paves way towards better understanding numerous as it allows direct comparison results, theory simulations.

Laser-produced plasma-wall interaction
Jets of laser–generated plasma represent a flexible and well-defined model environment for investigation of plasma interactions with solid surfaces (walls). The pilot experiments carried out on the iodine laser system (5–200 J, 0.44 mm, 0.25–0.3 ns, ,1 10 W/cm) at the PALS Research Centre in Prague are reported. Modification of macroscopic characteristics of the Al plasma jets produced at laser...
متن کاملZ-pinch Discharge in Laser Produced Plasma
Z-pinch effects in a laser produced aluminium plasma were investigated with a relatively low current fast coaxial electrical discharge. The ion flux in the laser produced plasma (LPP) was monitored with a Langmuir ion probe and the line density was controlled by using an aperture to select the portion of the LPP which enters the discharge cell. The Zpinch dynamics were recorded using time-resol...
متن کاملThe Laser Plasma: Basic Phenomena and Laws
High power lasers when focused onto matter lead to extremely rapid ionization by direct photoeffect or, depending on wavelength and material, by multiphoton processes. When a sufficient number of free electrons is created the formation of a dense, highly ionized plasma is more efficiently continued by electron–neutrals and electron–ion impact ionization. In view of many important applications t...
متن کاملInfluence of scale-breaking phenomena on turbulent mixing rates.
Simulations not seen before compare turbulent mixing rates for ideal fluids and for real immiscible fluids with experimental values for the surface tension. The simulated real fluid mixing rates lie near the center of the range of experimental values. A comparison to theoretical predictions relating the mixing rate, the bubble width, and the bubble height fluctuations based on bubble merger mod...
متن کاملStructure of an exploding laser-produced plasma.
We describe the first-ever volumetric, time-resolved measurements performed with a moving probe within an expanding dense plasma, embedded in a background magnetized plasma. High-resolution probe measurements of the magnetic field and floating potential in multiple 2D cut planes combined with a 1 Hz laser system reveal complex three-dimensional current systems within the expanding plasma. Stati...
